News.

Dover
Tough match in very cold conditions.  Thanet travelled to Dover for their semifinal in the East Kent Cup and met a very well organised team.  The first half was a very well contested game, in very good spirits.  Dover managed to break through twice to score whereas Thanet were unable to make the best of the oportunities that rarely appeared in the face of constant attacks from Dover.  The second half saw no further additions to the score line.  Man of the match was awarded to Seb for his debut appearance in the second half. Good luck to Dover in the final.

Maidstone.

We played a different team this weekend, giving a run out to some of the players that haven't had much of a game so far.  It is some time since we played Maidstone and it was apparent from early on that their pack was very strong so we changed this round at 1/2 time to improve our chances.  We were playing on a very narrow pitch which naturally led to a very pack dominated game. During the first half we had a few opportunities to put points on the board through penalties but only managed to slot one over.  Maidstone broke through once to score and we turned with the score 7-3 to them.

The second half saw us coming out very strong and we effectively pinned them into their half for most of the rest of the game.  Some indiscipline on both sides lead to a number of penalties being awarded to both sides but none of these were converted into points.  We did however miss another penalty and we also nearly scored a try from a quick penalty. With no more scores recorded the game finshed 7-3 to Maidstone.

So, it was a hard game.  The lads certainly learnt a lot and probably grew up a bit at the same time.   MOM was awarded to Daniel.

Match against Dartfordians,
Ryan slotted a penalty for 3 points after 3 minutes.  Dartfordians came back at first but our attacks continued to push us into their half. Managed to score a try off of a line out! but not converted - now 8-0
We were rucking the ball really well and were showing a lot of flair in all areas of the game.  We were awarded a penalty in front of their posts and then wasted it by trying to run in a try.  Robbed and kicked back down the pitch, but Alfredo ran it back really well.  Multiple phases of ball leading to Ruan scoring.  Not converted - Now 13-0
We slowed down at the turn round. George picked up an injury and Louis was yellow carded for a spear tackle. Dartfordians scored and converted a try during this period after a lot of pressure from them.  However Louis promptly scored a try on his return in the dying minutes.  Not converted.  Game ended 18-7 to us.
Canterbury.  East Kent Cup
In the first few minutes Cant gave away a penalty inside their half.  Ryan went for the points but missed but this signalled a determination in both teams (particularly us as we had pushed them back quite easily).  wE were much more organised and from the 22 drop out we then scored a try (Ryan) and converted (Ryan) - 7-0.  Restart followed with initial pressure from Cant but we fought back rucking well and tackling really well.  Another score (Joshua) converted (Ryan) - 14-0.  We were pinged with a penalty which Cant kicked to touch.  Although we lost the line out we broke them down and Ryan ran back from inside our 22 to within 6 meters of their try line.  Penalty to us, taken by Ryan - 17-0. From the restart we pushed them back again and got another penalty, taken by Ryan - 20-0.  Dream Half. The team were really up for it.  Jordan was having a really good half and was effectively leading the pack.  All the team were really doing well.
Second half.  We were even more up for it than the first half.  Ryan ran back the ball from deep in our half and scored under the posts, converted again - 27-0.  Various moves were being played out by both teams but We were dominating Cant off of the ball in most areas.  Another penalty was taken by Ryan - 30-0.  We had started subbing players due to minor injuries at this stage although we really kept our shape, which was nice to see. Another move saw the ball coming out from the forwards into the backs, passed down the line to Clayton, looped with Ryan a couple of times and then Clayton scored a try, converted by Ryan - 37-0.  Canterbury were desperate in the end and a small mistake saw them score a consolation try at the end which was not converted - End 37-5.  The best game we have played by far.
